My Husband Speaks Badly of me in Front of Our Son. What Should I Do?

Answer:

• You must take a better attitude than that of your husband.
• Teach your son to overcome these differences. He must learn that there is a difference between the relationship between a husband and wife and between children and their parents.
• Teach him that spouses can get angry with each other but it is not acceptable for children to sever their relationship with their parents or offend them.
• Do not exchange accusations with your husband or reciprocate the harm done to you.
• Be patient until God the Almighty grants you victory because He says: “Repel (evil) with what is better: then will he between whom and you was hatred become as it were your friend and intimate! And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint, none but persons of the greatest good fortune” [41:34-35].
• Be civil and teach your son how to love both his parents equally so that he may have a solid and stable personality.
